NOTE FROM FRANCIS WYMAN PTO

The Francis Wyman PTO will be sponsoring the 3rd Annual Fall Marketplace on Wednesday, November 10th from 5p-9p at the Francis Wyman Cafeteria and Gymnasium.  This fundraising event has given the Burlington community the chance to shop with over 80 talented vendors and crafters from all over New England.  We are now accepting applications for vendors/crafters.  Applications are available on-line at www.franciswymanpto.org or contact Jeanne McDonald, 781-603-6496 for more details.  We are seeking vendors to showcase a variety of unique items including jewelry, art, clothing, accessories, pottery, food, painted glassware, scrapbooking, photography, knitting/crochet, toys, quilting and more.  Vendors of the same/similar items will be limited, so apply early.

PRINCIPAL NOTES

Pine Glen is a school where teachers not only educate but embraced students with empathy and care every day. The goal at Pine Glen is to promote student growth and develop lifelong learners.
The fifth grade Moving Up Ceremony was last night.   It was a great celebration and throughout the evening we saw representations of student growth both academically and socially.
I again wish to thank the fifth graders for being such terrific role models for all the students at Pine Glen and remind them that they will always be part of the Pine Glen Community.  I wish them the best of success on their continued learning journey.

PRINCIPAL NOTES

Thank you very much to everyone who volunteered and will volunteer this year. I look forward to seeing even more parents in our school as we explore more volunteer opportunities.

I have greatly enjoyed the conversations shared with parents who have volunteered and attended the many school events we offered this year such as the Author’s Tea, Duck Boat field trip, Pine Glen BBQ, PTO meeting, and School Council meetings. These community events provide a stage for all of us to witness the social growth and maturity of the students.

I have put in long hours in this position, but it has all been worth it. I have taken great delight in is hearing from so many parents about your children’s academic progress.

As I approach the close of my first year as a principal I have come to the conclusion that I love being an elementary school principal and I particularly love being the principal of Pine Glen School. I know that every decision I made this year was in the best interest of students and will continue to be in the future. Thank you for the opportunity to work with your children and all your support!

Reading makes $$$$ for Burlington Schools (PTO's)

If you purchase your summer reading (required and recreational) during the Borders "Give Back" Event on June 26 (9am-10pm) & 27 (11am-7pm). Just bring in the voucher (going home in backpacks and up on school blogs soon) to the Borders Burlington store at Wayside Common and designate which school should get the credit when you make your purchase. Extra money for the schools without the extra effort while on summer break ... how great is that?!?!?

Field Day

Dear Parents,

Miss Govoni and I looked at the weather forecast this morning. The conditions for tomorrow will prevent us from having field day on Thursday. This was a difficult discussion and if the forecast is wrong Miss Govoni and I will be sending emails to the local meteorologists. We will be having Field Day this Friday, June 11th. If any information on the volunteer form is inaccurate, please contact Miss Govoni at 781 273 7037.

Thank you for you flexibility!

Sincerely,

John Lyons

PRINCIPAL NOTES

Taken from the Pine Glen Handbook - CORI

All prospective employees and volunteers, chaperones, and contractors working on school property, are subject to a CORI (Criminal Offender Records Information) check by the school department. The Burlington Public Schools have been certified by the Criminal History Systems Board for access to all criminal case data including convictions, non-convictions, and pending criminal case information. The Burlington Public School Department maintains a zero-tolerance policy, and any information on the CORI report other than “no record found” will result in the individual being denied employment, volunteering, chaperoning school activities, or working on school property. CORI reports are good for three years from the date of application.

Student safety is priority number one at Pine Glen. It is wonderful to have parent volunteers. Also, staff greatly appreciate having parent chaperones on field trips. Please remember that a CORI can not be processed over night and sometimes a CORI check does not come back for up to two weeks or more. It is understandable that people could forget to submit the paperwork to do a check, however, we can not make an exception. The question one needs to ask is “Would you be o.k. if your son or daughter were on a field trip with someone that has not had a CORI?” When parents send their children to school, it is with the understanding that they will be safe. That is a level of trust we can not break.

Please also come in and check the LOST and FOUND box we have many items, at the end of the month we will be sending the items to goodwill.
