Turkey Trot & Walkathon 2015

Pine Glen held it's annual Turkey Trot and Walkathon. Students in grades 3, 4 and 5 participated in the Turkey Trot which involved running a loop around the building. Following the Turkey Trot, the entire school walked in a walkathon. This fundraiser was for Pine Glen and The Burlington Food Pantry. In addition, students brought in food to donate to the Burlington Food Pantry. Thank you very much to the PTO for sponsoring this event. All the students had a great time!

Happy Thanksgiving!

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, I would like to thank all of the Pine Glen parents for everything you do on a daily basis that allow our children to make growth and progress.  Thank you for sending your children to school eager to learn and for the time you spend encouraging them, caring for them and supporting them.  Thank you also to all the staff at Pine Glen for providing a safe, kind and creative environment for students to develop a lifelong love of learning.

Please enjoy the football game, holiday run, card-game, parade, skiing or other traditions your family celebrate this Thanksgiving weekend.    I hope everyone in our Pine Glen Community has Happy Thanksgiving and enjoys this time with family and friends.

Pine Glen Book Fair Is Coming!

Join us for our Scholastic Book Fair, which will be taking place from November 30th-December 4th! Here is some important information to remember as we get ready for the fair.

Our class schedule for the week is attached below. Regular library classes have been cancelled so that our students may come to fair to browse and purchase.

Fliers will be sent home this week so that students may begin to preview the books available at the fair. Please note that all purchases at the fair are subject to the 6.25% Massachusetts sales tax, so please be sure to send your student with enough money to cover the tax in addition to the price of the books they purchase. Wish lists will be available for students to record the books they would like to purchase. They are encouraged make lists and to take these lists home to discuss with their families before they buy their books.

As always, there is no obligation to purchase anything at the book fair. Proceeds from the fair benefit the Pine Glen Library and help us purchase new, exciting, educational materials! Thanks as always for your support. If you have any questions, please contact Miss Carney at (781) 221-7798 or mcarney@bpsk12.org.

Kelly Boswell

Author and educational consultant, Kelly Boswell, collaborated and shared great pedagogical practices related to writing with fourth grade teachers as well as first year teachers yesterday. Staff had an opportunity to discuss nonfiction writing and written expression in general with Kelly. In addition, Kelly also modeled a lesson on teaching fourth graders how to do research to be included in their writing. Students, staff and I all greatly enjoyed this professional development.

The Ned Show

11/4/2015
Hi Pine Glen Families!

The NED Show Website Logo.png
We were lucky enough to have a school-wide assembly today put on by the NED show. The NED show is a character education program that emphasizes the message of N-Never Give up, E-Encourage Others and D-Do your best so we can be champions in school and in life. The show’s message was taught through storytelling and yo-yo tricks. The show was free to the school and is funded through a pay-it-forward program of selling yo-yos after the show. If we are able to sell the yo-yos at Pine Glen, we can pay it forward for the NED show to go to another school for free. If interested, they left me a number of yo-yos to sell: The Ned Yo ($8), Boomerang ($10) and the Cosmic Spin ($15). Please note: It is NOT required for your child to buy a yo-yo. You may buy one if interested!

For the following dates, I will have yo-yos for sale right before dismissal at the end of the day. You can send cash or a check made out to Pine Glen School to pay for the purchase. Please bring in the exact amount for the yo-yo your child may want to purchase.

The NED Show

We had an all school assembly today called the Ned Show. NED is an acronym for Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best. The program was designed to promote kindness and excellence at school. Students really enjoyed the performance.
