Commissioner Chester and NECN News Visit Pine Glen Elementary School

Dr. Mitchell D. Chester, Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Schools for the State of Massachusetts visited Pine Glen Elementary School.  Commissioner Chester joined me for my walk-throughs of the classrooms.  We had the opportunity to observe a fifth grade classroom having a Google Hangout (video conference) with students in Sicily, Italy, as part of World Read Aloud Day.  The students had an opportunity to read to each other.  It was very interesting to hear how students in Italy ski on Mt. Etna, an active volcano.  Commissioner Chester also had an opportunity to see the Bridges Together Program (http://www.bridgestogether.org/) in Mrs. Visocchi's Classroom.

Melissa Simas Tyler, a reporter from NECN News, also visited today.  She interviewed Commissioner Chester about the PARCC assessment which we will be piloting at Pine Glen Elementary School later this month.  She also interviewed some fifth graders and Ms. Marcus.

Commissioner Chester told me, "Pine Glen is an outstanding school.  I am very impressed with the technology and high level of instruction I saw in the classrooms."

Below are some pictures from the visit.
