Two Column Note Taking

Today, during my walk through of third grade, I saw Mrs. Salvador (our reading specialist) instructing students in how to take two column notes. Two column note taking helps students grasp technical or detail information in science and social studies in particular. Through this note taking strategy students grasp main ideas and details. It also helps students to retain information in their long term memory.

I first learned about two column note taking when I was in my first year of teaching at the Landmark School in Beverly, Massachusetts.
