Mr. Preston
Mr. Preston, who was principal of Pine Glen Elementary School from 1968 to 2003, visited Pine Glen Elementary School today. When Mr. Preston was principal, Pine Glen School had 535 students. The current enrollment is 301 students. Mr. Preston told us the school looks great and he loved the new awning.

BHS Graduation
PLEASE HELP CONTINUE THE TRADITION: Will you be a chaperone at the BHS Post Graduation (all-night) Party? Its tradition for the parents of underclassmen to chaperone the party for our graduating seniors. We still need chaperones (both men and women) for the early morning shifts onMonday June 10. We have a few spots open for 2nd shift which is 12 am - 3 am and we have a lot of spots open for 3rd shift which is 3am -5am. You don't need to have a child in the high school, any adult that does not have a senior at the party is welcome. This is a great way to "pay it forward." Help us this year and when your child graduates, the parents of underclassmen will be there for you! To volunteer, or if you have any questions, please contact Michele Shields atMichele_Shields@verizon.net or 781-270-5142.
First Grade
Today during my walk through I listened in on a "book club" in Mrs. Hayes' first grade classroom. The first graders were discussing a recent book they had read and were talking about inferences they had discovered while reading.

Motion and Phonics
Today during my walk throughs I saw Mrs. Babajtis working on consonant digraphs with her kindergarten students. Mrs. Babajtis was helping her students embed this knowledge into their long term memories by doing physical activity related to the individual phonetic sounds in a word.
Gross motor memory is very strong. This is why people never forget how to ride a bicycle.

PG 5th Graders Share at Edcamp Boston
Cross-posted at the Pine Glen Library & Technology Center blog:
Mrs. D’Elia and I were thrilled to have five of our great fifth graders attend Edcamp Boston this year to share their experiences in 1:1 iPad classrooms. The event was attended by over 200 educators from across New England and New Jersey, and the students spoke before a group of 50 educators who asked them some very tough questions about how they handle working on the iPad and what they liked or didn’t like about it. It was an amazing experience, and they made us incredibly proud. Thank you so much to Ashlyn, Dilan, Judy, Kenan, and Sammy, as well as their parents, for joining us on Saturday! See the Storify below to see pictures of the students in action and the reactions of all of the educators who saw them!

Camp Bournedale
CAMP BOURNEDALE
Dear Parents of soon to be fifth graders,
The time is fast approaching for our annual fifth grade trip to Camp Bournedale.
The dates for the trip are Wednesday and Thursday, September 18th
and 19th. The trip will last two days and one night. This optional, yet highly
recommended and popular trip is a great way to kick off the school year!
A parent information meeting will be held at the Francis Wyman School Auditorium
on Monday, May 13th at 6:00 pm. At this meeting Darin Fabrizio, Bournedale Camp
Director, will be showing a PowerPoint presentation discussing the educational
programs and facilities provided to all students who attend Camp Bournedale.
Darin will answer any questions that you may have. Teachers will also be there to
answer any questions you may have.
The cost of the trip (including transportation) is $ 165.00 per child.
If you would like your child to attend, please return the signed permission slip by
Thursday, May 30th, 2013 along with a check for $165.00.
Checks should be made payable to Burlington Public Schools - Camp Bournedale.
Due to the timing of the trip in September we are requiring full payment this
spring. If you absolutely need a refund in the fall (child illness, family emergency,
etc.) it will be granted.
If you are interested in being a chaperone, please complete and return the
chaperone request form.
We look forward to an exciting, educational experience with your child. Please feel
free to contact Mrs. Fitzpatrick by e-mail dfitzpatrick@bpsk12.org or call 781-
273-7041 with any questions or concerns. Camp and program information can also
be found on Camp Bournedale’s web site www.campbournedaleed.net
Thank you,
Mrs. Fitzpatrick
Looking for Video
Hello Pine Glen Community,
We were unable to get video of the concert on Wednesday. For some reason, the camera did not record anything. We would be very grateful if families would be willing to share their videos with us so that we can archive the performance. If you would like to share, please email Mrs. Agati (agati@bpsk12.org).
Thank you for your assistance!
Mr. Lyons
