The Pine Glen Museum of Artifacts showed how technology has changed over the last 50 years.

Today, students in fourth grade had their Invention Convention. Congratulations to all the fourth graders on doing such a great job on their inventions!

Note From the School Nurse

Please stop in the health office by Monday, June 24, 2013 to pick up any medications that you brought in for your child. After this date, medications will be discarded. Also--Reminder to All Third Grade Parents--Updated physicals are required by State Law for students entering fourth grade. Saying Thank You Doesn't Seem Like Enough

For the first time this school year, the Library & Technology Center had the help of nine parent volunteers to run the circulation and clerical parts of the library. Looking back on this year, I can see all that Mr. Callahan and I were able to accomplish knowing that the library was in the good hands of the volunteers.

Let me take a moment to highlight some of the truly amazing feats that these stellar Volunteer Assistants accomplished this year:

• Checking out, checking in, and reshelving 22,908 books,
• Pulling, filling, and managing 1,643 holds (although we're still trying to figure out how that Hold system works! Right, Mrs. Mirra?),
• Changing the call # and spine labels on the entire Easy Nonfiction collection (that's close to 1,000 books!),
• Stamping and barcoding approximately 600 new books that were added to the collection,
• Smiling through every task,
• and making every single person who walked into the LTC feel welcome.

There is so much more that I have not mentioned here but I think you get the picture. I could not have done all of that on my own and still teach students. Thank you for your time, thank you for your willingness and dedication to Pine Glen, and thank you for helping to make the LTC an inviting space and an invaluable resource.

Visiting Artist Bren Bataclan

Yesterday, artist Bren Bataclan (www.bataclan.com) visited Pine Glen Elementary School. Students and teachers enjoyed learning how to make some of Bren's characters as well as his passion for sharing happiness through his art.

First Grade Spring Fling

Today several parents visited first grade classrooms to help them celebrate their annual Spring Fling Celebration.

Two-Time Olympian Molly Sullivan Sliney

Today, two-time Olympic Fencer and the University of Notre Dame's 1980 Female Athlete of the Decade Molly Sullivan Sliney visited Pine Glen Elementary School. Molly spoke to third, fourth and fifth grade students thanks to the generous support of our PTO. Her message to the students was about how she overcame her learning disability to realize her dreams and students can realize their dreams too by setting goals and believing in themselves (www.sliney.com).

Colonial Publicity Projects

I would like congratulate the fifth graders in Ms. Marcus Classroom for doing a great job on their Colonial Publicity Projects. Mrs. Salvador, our reading specialist, and Mr. Larkin, assistant superintendent, along with myself were honored to be colonial governors.

Today, Mrs. Visocchi's Fourth Grade Students hosted an Author's Tea/Open House. It was great to see the students sharing their terrific writing.

Mr. Preston

Mr. Preston, who was principal of Pine Glen Elementary School from 1968 to 2003, visited Pine Glen Elementary School today. When Mr. Preston was principal, Pine Glen School had 535 students. The current enrollment is 301 students. Mr. Preston told us the school looks great and he loved the new awning.

Yesterday, Mrs. D'Elia, our library media specialist, read to future kindergarten students at Kindergarten Orientation. It was wonderful to meet so many new students and families that will be joining our Pine Glen Community in the fall.

BHS Graduation

PLEASE HELP CONTINUE THE TRADITION: Will you be a chaperone at the BHS Post Graduation (all-night) Party?  Its tradition for the parents of underclassmen to chaperone the party for our graduating seniors.  We still need chaperones (both men and women) for the early morning shifts onMonday June 10.  We have a few spots open for 2nd shift which is 12 am - 3 am and we have a lot of spots open for 3rd shift which is 3am -5am.   You don't need to have a child in the high school, any adult that does not have a senior at the party is welcome.  This is a great way to "pay it forward."  Help us this year and when your child graduates, the parents of underclassmen will be there for you!  To volunteer, or if you have any questions, please contact Michele Shields atMichele_Shields@verizon.net or 781-270-5142.
