Mrs. Hayes 3rd Grade Class

Congratulations to Mrs. Hayes' 3rd grade class for doing an incredible act of kindness! This group used their own money to buy books at the book fair for Mrs. Hayes' classroom library. We are so proud of them for this gift to Mrs. Hayes and future 3rd graders who will be able to enjoy these wonderful books!

Polar Express and PJ’s

I greatly enjoyed reading "The Polar Express" to kindergarten this morning. Students and staff dressed in their pj's like the characters in the book.

The fourth and fifth graders presented a fantastic performance last night! Mr. Samulak directed the orchestra, Mr. Napierkowski directed the band, and Mrs. Agati along with Mrs. DeMartinis directed the chorus.

Hello!

The book fair is here! Want to donate a book to your child’s classroom? Teachers are identifying books students want to read.

Please remember there is a 6.25% sales tax. We accept cash, checks (made out to the Pine Glen Learning Commons), as well as credit cards.

We are accepting $1.00 donations towards the All for Books program. For each dollar we raise, Scholastic will match it. The money goes towards books for kids in need.

You may visit the book fair without your child from 8:20 a.m. until 2:45 p.m. today through Wednesday and from 8:20 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Hip-Hop Music and Geography

Today during my walkthrough's I saw students is Ms. Merlino's Grade 4 Classroom dancing and singing to hip-hop music. The students were singing the states and their related capitals as I way to store this knowledge into their long term memory.

Grade 2 Science

Today during my walkthrough's I saw Ms. Anderson modeling for her students how to do two-column notes. Ms. Anderson's students were learning about the different states of matter. Students were being asked to use higher order thinking to do classification and categorization. In addition, Ms. Anderson was teaching her students a lifelong skillset for note-taking that is preparing them for higher level education.

Welcome Mr. Castro

We are very excited this week to welcome Mr. Castro to Pine Glen Elementary School. Mr. Castro has expertise in teaching students who do not have English as their first language.   He has been a welcome addition to our school.

Coding and Computer Science

Fifth grade students loved working on coding today.

Our next topic will focus on Basic Rights in Special Education presented by the Federation for Children with Special Needs. This presentation will provide parents, caregivers and educators with a basic understanding of the complex special education laws and procedures. Evening will begin promptly at 7pm in the Marshall Simonds library, located on the 2nd floor.

Fall Scholastic Book Fair

An amazing selection of books will be in our library/ learning commons on December 11th-14th! The book fair is a great way to get everyone excited about reading. Gift wrapping will be provided for books that are gifts. All proceeds go to the library/ learning commons as well as towards classroom magazines.

Below is the schedule that includes the date and time child will be able to purchase books. You are welcome to come to the book fair with your child during his/her scheduled time as well. You may visit the book fair without your child from 8:20 a.m. until 2:45 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday and from 8:20 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Please remember:

• Sales tax rate in Massachusetts is 6.25%

• You may send in a check made payable to the Pine Glen Learning Commons with a Do Not Exceed amount

• You may send in a credit card number (and expiration date) with a Do Not Exceed amount

• Receipts will be sent home for all payment methods

Kindness

We have different themes throughout the academic school year. Our December theme is kindness.

In the following picture, Mrs. Tilton, our guidance counselor, is discussing with kindergarten students the theme of kindness in a book.

Hedgehog Show

Today Mrs. Pavlicek presented a Hedgehog Show to the kindergartners. The students greatly enjoyed learning about these animals.
