Note to Parents & Students

March 27, 2016

Dear Parents and Students,

After February vacation it was brought to my attention that dancers at Suzanne’s Dance Connection had a dress rehearsal planned on the same evening as our Pine Glen Spring Concert. Since that time I have reached out to SDC in order to achieve some sort of compromise so that the affected students could participate easily in both events (I am unable to change the day of the concert, and SDC can’t change their rehearsal). After repeated attempts at communication, I have only ever received one response in which I was told that I would get a call from the studio to discuss the matter further, and that call has never come.
I realize the tough position this puts both students and parents in. I have spoken to some of the girls affected and they are truly upset by the dilemma. Unfortunately, a choice needs to be made. In my opinion, a performance, the last concert at Pine Glen for many of them, is more important than a rehearsal. I believe everyone should make the effort to be here for the concert that all the students have worked so hard to create. When performers are missing, the work of the group suffers. In addition, that evening is also the Art and Technology show which showcases your child’s hard work from throughout the year.
That being said, I understand that everyone needs to make the choice you think is right for your family. I will be as flexible as possible in the hope that everyone will make the effort to be here on that night and split your time between the rehearsal and the concert. All I ask is that if you are unable to participate in the evening performance (all students will still perform in the morning for the younger grades) that you let me know as soon as possible. I plan to hold try-outs for speaking parts, solos, and other special roles, and I need to know who will be able to attend before making these decisions.
Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. E-mail is best because I can reply at any time. If you call and leave a message I’ll return your call as soon as possible.

Thank you,

Jennifer Agati

Spring Concert

Spring Concert 2017!

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Once again the 4th and 5th grade chorus and band are rehearsing for their annual Spring Concert.  The concert will take place on May 11th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Pine Glen School Cafeteria.
Our concert is titled When I Open A Book. We are asking that students to wear a solid color top (any color) and black pants or skirt. Please make sure the top does not have any writing or graphics on the front.
Arts and Technology night is the same evening and will begin at 6:00 p.m.  Students in the band or string orchestra should proceed to the gym at 6:45 with their instruments and music. Students in the chorus only will report to the gym at 7:00 to warm-up and line up in preparation for their portion of the concert.
We are looking forward to putting on a great performance!  I hope to see you all there!  Please visit my blog for more information, or e-mail me with any questions or concerns.

Youth & Human Services Day

Burlington Parks & Recreation Department is sponsoring a Youth & Human Services Day. The event is taking place throughout the day on April 8th.  The event will allow community members to visit and interact with different organizations in the town to see what programs, services, groups, and parks the town has to offer. The hub of organizations will be setting up booths and activities at Simonds Park; we have an array of who will be in attendance, from an obstacle course being set up by the Army to an informative booth being set up by the food pantry.  We also have some organizations setting up at their own locations. The full schedule of events and list of organizations that will be involved can be found on our flyer which I have attached.

We had two trees at Pine Glen Elementary School taken down today. The arborist determined that the trees were sick and needed to be removed. This proactive move was orchestrated today with the forecast calling for storm with extreme winds and heavy snow.

Then and Now

First grade students in Mrs. Sheppard's classroom were reading Scholastic News on their iPads this morning. The electronic version allows for more applications then the print version.

This brought me back in time to when I was in first grade looking at Weekly Reader. In the 1970's we thought some day in the "future" we might read newspapers on a computer. I don't think back then anyone imagined we would have portable tablets.
