Cradles to Crayons
Burlington Public Schools are collecting gently-used clothing and sneakers in support of local children in-need!
Cradles to Crayons provides essential items to children living in low-income or homeless situations in Massachusetts. We do this by collecting new and gently-used items from local families and redistributing them to children in-need of everyday essentials.
Before leaving for summer vacation, please consider cleaning out your closets and dropping off your gently used children’s items in a toter in the lobby at any of the Elementary schools: Fox Hill, Francis Wyman, Memorial or Pine Glen from June 2-20th.
We are especially in need of:
Boys clothing sizes 2T - 18/20 (especially tops)
Girls clothing sizes 24 months – 18/20 (especially tops)
Sneakers (up to adult size 10)
Because of our unique model, items donated to Cradles to Crayons are distributed directly to local children in-need. By donating clothing and sneakers you no longer want or need, you can help make a difference in the life of a child in need, and help Cradles to Crayons provide local kids with quality items, free of charge, that will help them thrive – at home at school and at play.
For more information on Cradles to Crayons and how to get involved, visitwww.cradlestocrayons.org/ boston. For questions, please call Nancy Kiehl 781-307-7486

Summer Reading Anywhere with BrainHive, eBooks On Demand
Don't let the Summer Slide happen!
Research shows that students who continue to read for fun over the summer don't lose the skills they gained in school before summer break. But it's not always easy to get to a library or a bookstore over the summer when you are vacationing or playing at the beach!
With the extremely generous help of the Pine Glen PTO, Pine Glen students have thousands of ebooks available to them all summer long through our subscription to BrainHive, eBooks On Demand!
Fourth and Fifth grade students have learned how to access BrainHive on their iPads but you can also use the Android app or the web version.
Accounts for 2nd and 3rd graders are coming soon!
To find out more about how to borrow books on BrainHive over the summer, see the flyer below.
Thank You Pine Glen PTO!

Message from Burlington Police Department
BPD radKids Week
The Burlington Police Department will once again be offering the radKIDS
program this summer to Burlington children ages 8-12. The kids will be in a
fun and very active program that stresses safety awareness through role-play,
self-defense and other activities.
The Burlington Police will incorporate risk awareness skills (strangers,
public safety etc.) with radKIDS, a program that offers defense against
abduction. The radKids portion of the class (defense against abduction) is a
15-hour class to be integrated with safety awareness teachings.
Due to a generous grant from Lahey Clinic, classes will be free for all
attending residents. Donations to the Burlington D.A.R.E. Program are
appreciated. As per the radKIDS organization, each child thereafter will be
able to re-attend the class on an unlimited basis for free.
The course will be held at the Memorial Elementary School gymnasium
Monday – Friday (9am-12noon) July 14-28, July 21-25 and July 28-August
1. All 5 classes must be attended. Full time Burlington Police officers will
teach the class.
Registration forms will be made available at the Burlington Police Web Site:
www.bpd.org and may be dropped off at the Police Station. Limited space
available! For questions, call Officers Keith Sheppard or Steve Cross at
(781) 505-4919 or 781-505-4965.
