RE: 9/11 Ceremony in Burlington
The weather forecast looks good. The flowers are in place, and the wreaths have been ordered. The Town of Burlington will be remembering the tragic events of 9/11/2001, this Sunday, September 11, 2011 and everyone is invited to attend.
The event will take place on our beautiful Town Common this Sunday, September 11, 2011, beginning at 9:30am. The hour long service will be at our 9/11 Memorial and Flag Pole across from the Fire Station. There will be a collation on the common immediately after the ceremony.
The day will begin with the Stuart Highlanders bagpipe band, members of the Burlington Fire and Police Departments and Honor Guards, as well as additional military honor guards from Hanscom and Devens (Air Force and Marines), Middlesex Sheriff Department Honor Guard, and the Burlington American Legion Honor Guard. The Liberty Belle Chorus will also join us to sing several patriotic songs. The Honor Guards will be led onto the town common by the BHS Marching Band Drum Line. TAPS will be played by a member of the BHS Band.
Members of Tom Mcguinness’s family and friends, and the families and friends of Robert Hayes and BHS teacher Jim and his wife Mary, Trentini will also be in attendance, as well as the family and friends of L/Cpl Greg MacDonald. Comments and prayers will be by police officers, firefighters, Marines and family and friends. There will be placement of wreaths at our Burlington 9/11 Memorial and our Veterans Memorial.
We are holding this ceremony because it is important to remember our friends who died that day, to remember a young man who died too young in a country too far from home, and to honor the First Responders who died that day in New York, and honor our First Responders here in Burlington.
We are not sure how many people may be attending, so we encourage those who attending to arrive early. The program will begin at 9:30 am.
